The Plot Curdles

This is starting to get fascinating. I never really expected this to get anywhere. But I have to admit, the longer this continues, the more absorbed I become. If Obama wanted this to go away, the best thing he could do would be to just post a copy of his original Birth Certificate (assuming he has one) online and be done with it. Of course, there would still be people who would claim that he was faking it. There would always be people who would claim that he was faking it, there would always be people who claim that he is the anti-christ for that matter.

But simply posting a copy of a routine birth certificate showing place of birth, date, time, name of physician, name and address of parents, etc. and all the other routine information would go far toward spiking the guns of those who are carrying on this campaign to claim that he is not a natural born citizen.

Instead, the man posted that lame substitute certificate of live birth from Hawaii that they use to use for people who were born outside the state but had parents who were Hawaii residents. Then, when people filed Freedom of Information act requests to get a look at his passport, and college records to see of he attended as a citizen, he hires no less than three (3) different law firms and spends literally millions of dollars fighting to keep the information concealed.

Is the guy nuts? Why not just post the damn original Birth Certificate and be done with it? I had to produce a Birth Certificate to get my driver's license. What's the big deal?

Now someone has filed Criminal Charges against the President for High Treason.

Sheesh.

Federal criminal complaint contends Obama ineligible
Ex-officer alleges prez used 'contrivance, concealment, dissembling and deceit'

Not to be outdone, one of the lawyers who is filing a different lawsuit in Washington State apparently is having trouble with Homeland Security (today's J. Edgar Hoover's FBI dontcha know).

...Dozens of similar cases have been filed around the country since the election and many have been dismissed, often because judges rule the plaintiffs don't have "standing" to bring a complaint.

The Washington state case, however, cites state law that vests in citizens the right to raise questions about an elected official's authority, effectively granting standing to those plaintiffs...(emphasis added)

Which I suppose might explain why he is getting the up close and personal attention.

While last, but certainly not least, it appears that MSNBC is not happy about the brouhaha AT ALL.

Suggesting eligibility proof gets congressman scorned
U.S. Rep. Bill Posey did what most congressmen would do regarding a subject of grave concern to their voters: He proposed a bill that would require future presidential candidates to document their eligibility. And that has earned him scorn and ridicule.

"What you should do is stop embarrassing yourself and take the Reynolds Wrap off your head," MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann suggested... (emphasis added)

Hey, hey, hey! Let's hear it for the unbiased press!

This one caught my attention. So I googled it. Here is a quote from Rep. Posey's blog (I added the bolding myself):

... Last Friday I introduced a bill that requires all future presidential candidates to file a copy of their birth certificate, along with all the other necessary documentation, to show that a candidate meets the qualifications for president under the Constitution.

What does the U.S. Constitution say about this - Article II says there are three qualifications for president:
1. Must be a natural born citizen
2. Must be at least 35 years old
3. Must have been a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years.

Why'd I do this? Well, for a number of reasons and the more and more I get called names by leftwing activists, partisan hacks and political operatives for doing it, the more and more I think I did the right thing.  First, it's easy to call people names. This week, I've been called some pretty nasty things. That's fine. But none of these tolerant people actually want to discuss the issue at hand.  Whether or not a presidential candidate should have to file these documents with the government.

I could easily fill up a page listing all the activities an American needs to show their ID for. Everything from playing youth soccer to getting a drivers license, buying cigarettes and alcohol, to opening bank accounts and even playing little league. So I was pretty surprised to find out that to run for president, despite the constitutional requirement and the media scrubbing that goes on, it's not required for a candidate to file these documents when they submit their statement of candidacy with the FEC.

But having been charged with reforming the elections in the State of Florida after the 2000 recounts and lawsuits, I thought I could offer a solution to this question on eligibility. There's nothing anyone can do about changing past elections. the President won. All the lawsuits in the world are not going to change that. But if what some folks are worried about - that presidential candidates don't have to submit to the same documentation that average folks have to submit to - well, then we can change that for the next election.

A recent AOL poll found showed that 75% of the people participating agreed with me. And many have expressed surprise it is not already a requirement.

I'm willing to discuss this issue with anyone who wants to talk in a rational manner, but I WILL NOT engage in name calling, smear campaigns, or any other venomous activity. (hear that Mr. Ubermann? - Caveman))I will not. Why? Well for one thing, it's childish. But on another level, we're supposed to be able to have a civil debate on the issues in this country.

Anyway, I feel I need to be open with folks on this.

So. Tell me now, Mr. Ubermann. Why do you feel it necessary to hurl childish insults at a man for introducing a bill that would merely require the same type of common sense proof of identity that one has to produce when entering elementary school? Or obtaining a passport? Or a driver's license? Or joining a kid's sports team? Or registering to vote for that matter?

Seems to me that if *I* have to produce a brith certificate in order to register to vote, it is not too extreme for the law to require the candidate who is running to be required to produce a birth certificate in order to run. Why does that idea reduce you to gibbering panic, Mr. Uberman?

*sigh*
